Tales of Virapul

This is an LP of battle music written for a D&D campaign. I did most of the graphic design work for the jewel case cd release, in conjunction with the cover artist and musician. More specifically I did the layout design, fonts, inner case pixel art design, and the map on the back of the case. Below is a PDF of the 7 page booklet included, as well as some photos of the finished product.

After much consideration it was decided we wanted to take a more authentic approach, because we were trying to sell that the inside of the book was an actual journal. We tried a few different handwritten fonts, but none gave us the feeling we were looking for, so we decided to hand write the story, using underlaid text as a guide. The picture locations were decided beforehand, to space them out and make them more believable as notebook doodles. We decided to color Player Characters and major NPCs blue in the story, and the names of the songs red. We did this so that listeners could follow along to the story while listening to the album, and get a sense of the adventure through the album.

We also planned on using stock image faded paper, but I decided it would be more authentic to make and use our own. So I hand dyed 4 pieces of paper with layers of tea until I got my desired effect. Then I scanned them in to use as the backgrounds. I believe the results speak for themselves.
